The question I would pose is “Why do women and young girls
compare themselves to models”? Even I am guilty of this and it really irritates
me. We all know that models and actresses don’t really look like what they do
on magazine covers and billboards, and yet we all compare ourselves to them. We
feel the need to live up to that status and look just like them. If we don’t
look like them then we are below average or imperfect when in reality they look
nothing like what the advertisements make them look like. Photoshop plays a big
part in making these women look “perfect” and “beautiful” and even though we
know this we all buy into it and beat ourselves up over not looking like them.
The main reason I want to know why we do this is so I can stop doing it to myself.
I want to stop comparing myself to these photo-shopped pictures and be happy
with the body that I have. I think the reason most everyone else does it to
themselves as well is because they see these bodies as society’s only view of
perfect and beautiful. Everyone knows that these photos are fake, but everyone
still compares themselves to them because they feel that is what they need to
look like in order to be accepted. Young girls and women’s self-esteem takes a
toll because they are comparing themselves to an image that society says is
perfect when it is actually fake. Society’s perception of beauty is greatly
skewed by the photo-shopped pictures plastered everywhere.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I remember looking at my mom's victoria's secret magazines when I was little and saying, mom...they're so perfect. I remember my mom telling me that the pictures were photo shopped and there's no way for a women to look the way they do in the magazines. It's so true! I believe God made every human being beautiful, but due to our sinful nature, we see ourselves as imperfect. It's something that we were born with. I used to look at magazines when I was a child and a teenager, but now I just wake up and be exactly who God wants me to be. We ALL should be happy that we are healthy and alive and concentrate more on the inside rather than the out...even though I know it's hard sometimes.
